Candle Care

Here you can find some helpful tips to give you the most out of your candle. A candle looked after properly will last longer.

• Wax

When you recieve your candle it will be ready to light. Upon first ignite, allow candle to burn for at least three hours or until the entire surface has melted from side to side. This is called a melt pool. Ensuring the top has fully melted will avoid 'tunneling'. Tunneling is caused when a candle is blown out too soon before a full melt pool has been created. When this happens, a crater is made around the wick and that crater will continue to sink with each burn, this wastes wax but you also won't get a strong scent throw since not enough wax has melted.

All candles are made using natural soy wax which is as the name suggests, derived from soy beans meaning it is sustainable and biodegradeable unlike paraffin wax. Soy wax has a lower melting point which allows for a much slower burn time so your 30cl candle has an approximate burn time of 45 hours. Because soy is a naturtal wax is can look uneven between burns once it has solidified, this is normal and in no way affects the scent or quality of your candle.

• Wick

Once you've allowed your candle to burn for three to four hours (no more than four), extinguish, preferrably with a snuffer and leave the candle to solidify where it is. The next time you light it, use a wick trimmer to remove excess burnt wick, if you don't have a trimmer you can simply use your fingers to pull the wick off before lighting. If you do not trim the wick before next light, the excess wick can pop and mix into the wax causing discolouration and can also affect the fragrance, adding an unwanted ashy smell so trimming the wick is essential to maintaining a beautifully scented, long lasting candle.

• Safety

Please do not leave your candle unattended while burning. Once the candle reaches half way down your jar, make sure it is not left burning on a surface that can ruin from heat, use a coaster to ensure your surfaces avoid heat damage. Make sure your burning candle has ample space above and around the flame and that there is nothing that can catch fire i.e if burning on shelves.

Always burn your candle in a room without draft. Do not keep near windows. Draft can affect the way a candle burns and can make for an uneven burn causing tunneling. Scent throw can also be affected.

Our noses get used to scents that we dwell in over a period of time, to fully appreciate your candle fragrance, step out of the room that it's been burning in (best to wait for at least two to three hours) and come back in to get a full hit of your fragrance. As a candle burns it goes through stages of its fragrance blend, opening with top notes, leading to heart notes and ending with base notes. Care and guidance is explained on every candle on the base.

Be safe and enjoy your beautiful candle.
